CBI citizens who acquired passports through citizenship by investment (Cbi) programs can seek consular protection and assistance from missions available abroad during emergency when you need help!
We have compiled list of embassies and consulates of CBI countries available abroad. It is very important to understand the difference between embassy and consulate. Embassies deal with only foreign relations while consulates provide assistance for citizens. Typically a consulate will function inside the embassy.
Citizens can get consulate services for
- Passports
- Emergency certificate
- Legal documents / Apostille
- Sickness, death or other emergency situations
- Contact family, friends, or employers of the detained citizens abroad.
What consulates cannot help you with?
- Provide Visas, immigration for other countries.
- Travel booking and hotel reservations or lend money
- Store your luggage and valuables.
- Pay for your hotel, medical expenses or other bills, including the fee for returning lost luggage to Bulgaria.
- Provide you with a lawyer, interpreter and telephone services (who speak english).
- Exchange currency, postal and banking services.
- Represent you in lawsuits or pay legal costs in criminal, commercial, labor or civil lawsuits.
- Release you from prison or arrange for any special treatment for you in prison.
- No legal advice or counseling.
- Intervene to resolve commercial disputes
- Cover the cost of cremation or burial for citizens deceased abroad
- Provide loans or undertake to pay your bills for food, transport, accommodation, legal or medical advice / hospitalization.
- Pay pension or arrange for payment of your social security contributions.
- Investigate crimes.
Also note that if you are dual citizen, consulates will not be able to provide you full assistance in these situations
Commonwealth
Commonwealth citizens can seek assistance from any embassy of commonwealth country if the diplomatic mission is not present. These are the eight countries that offer commonwealth citizenship as a supplemental citizenship, through citizenship by investment (CBI) schemes

The consular assistance is available 24×7 for maltese citizens even in public holidays.
The Consul-on-the-Move Program was launched on 5 May 2016, in accordance with the Passports Office within Identity Malta Agency, and conforms with the Government’s vision to have Governmental services closer to the citizens. It provides a number of Consular services (that are normally available at Maltese Embassies and Consulates) in different locations.
This is currently available in Australia, Canada, the United States of America, theUnited Kingdom, and New Zealand. All Consular services currently available at the Maltese Embassies and Consulates continue to remain available.
Consular protection is available to Maltese citizens in other diplomatic missions of any EU member state, if the maltese diplomatic mission is not available in the country.
A Member State is considered not represented in a third country if it has no embassy or consulate established there on a permanent basis, or if it has no embassy, consulate or Honorary Consul there which is effectively in a position to provide consular protection in a given case.
