The Maltese Golden visa program (MPRP) now becomes cheaper and affordable to applications, as a result of new changes implemented into the program.
On 22 July 2025, the Residency Malta Agency published Circular No. RMA 72 – 2025, formally
announcing substantial updates to the MPRP golden visa framework via Legal Notice 146 of 2025. These updates are applicable to all new applications submitted from 1 January 2025 onwards. The changes aim to streamline application processing, simplify pricing, introduce a transitional permit, and offer greater flexibility on property use.
Key Changes
- A one-year Temporary Residence Permit granted at the outset after background checks.
- A restructured pricing model, replacing the distinction between purchasing and leasing property
with a unified contribution. - Lower fee for dependants and zero fee for spouse significantly reduce overall costs for larger families.
- Rental flexibility for both owned and leased qualifying property.
- The transfer of licensing authority from Agenzija Komunità Malta to the Residency Malta Agency.
