Nauru Citizenship Program Opens Doors for Stateless People

Republic of Nauru

The Nauru citizenship program office has announced recently, a stateless Kuwaiti national was granted citizenship through Nauru’s Economic and Climate Resilience Citizenship Program providing necessary documents and passing background checks. Nauru is one the only handful of countries offering economic citizenship to rich stateless people with proper documentation and enough finances to support themselves. This makes stateless people suitable candidates for Nauru climate citizenship by investment program.

CEO Edward Clark said the Kuwaiti national was granted citizenship following an in-depth due diligence process involving financial intelligence units, police, and third-party checks.

Applicants have to donate USD 105,000 to Nauru government’s treasury to become a citizen of Nauru. The money helps Nauru to fund climate change and relocate local population to higher ground from rising sea levels. The application process is straightforward takes 90-120 days to receive approvals without any physical visit required to the country.

Nauru’s citizenship for stateless people provides stateless people access to freedom for international travel, education, employment, political rights, healthcare, freedom of movement, and many other basic human rights.

Nauru approved first application under citizenship by investment program and welcomed new citizen in early August. The file was submitted in February 2025, followed by formal acceptance in March 2025, and finally, approval in principle in June 2025.

The Republic of Nauru is yet to sign visa waiver agreement with EU schengen area, has visa free access to United Kingdom, Ireland, UAE and other countries. As of Aug 2025, Nauruan passport had visa free travel to 87 countries and territories according to Henley passport index.
